Oslo police are investigating a fatal assault in western Oslo as a homicide after a person died following a violent incident on Tuesday evening, Dagbladet reports.

A person was found with severe injuries at a private residence after police received an emergency call at 19:21. Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed they have detained a suspect near the location.

“A person has been confirmed dead at the scene due to the violence they were subjected to. We have control of the perpetrator, who is now being transported to custody. We are in dialogue with several individuals who were present. At this stage, we are treating this as a homicide case,” operations manager Eirik Sannes stated in the police log.

Police initially reported searching for a suspect and deployed a helicopter during the manhunt. Minutes later, they confirmed an arrest on a public street near the crime scene, noting that warning shots were fired during the apprehension.

Investigators are conducting searches at another address linked to the suspect, as well as along the escape route. Multiple people were present at the residence when the incident occurred, according to authorities.
