Finland’s Eurovision duo receives surprise encouragement from president
Finland’s Eurovision Song Contest representatives, Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen, received an unexpected message of support from President Alexander Stubb during a live television appearance on Tuesday evening, public broadcaster Yle reports.
The pair, performing as part of the duo Windows95man, were guests on Yle’s Puoli seitsemän talk show to discuss their upcoming participation in this year’s Eurovision. During the broadcast, they were shown a video greeting from Stubb, who urged them on ahead of the competition.
“If and when things go well, you’re welcome to [Presidential Palace] Linnanmäki on Independence Day,” Stubb said in the recorded message.
A visibly surprised Lampenius reacted with excitement, exclaiming, “Oh my God! Wow!” after the video played. Both artists later expressed pride in representing Finland at what Parkkonen called the “world championships of music,” emphasizing they would carry the Finnish flag with them.
The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in May, with Finland’s entry among the competing acts.
