Faroe Islands municipality opens new residential area in Strond
The municipality of Sjóvar has announced plans to develop a new residential area near Lághálsar in Strond, as the local population grows at the fastest rate in the Faroe Islands, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
The 11,000-square-metre site will accommodate both apartments and detached houses, with developers invited to submit proposals for ownership, co-operative, or rental housing models. “There is strong demand for both plots and housing,” said Hans Anders Jacobsen, mayor of Sjóvar.
Recent statistics from the Faroese national bureau show Sjóvar’s population increased by 43 people—3.4 percent—from March last year to March this year, the highest growth rate among the islands’ 29 municipalities. The municipality now has 1,312 residents.
