Copenhagen Airport Station expands with two new platforms
Commuters will benefit from increased train capacity after Copenhagen Airport Station added two new platforms on Monday, operator Sund & Bælt announced.
The expansion allows up to ten additional trains per hour to serve the station, which now has a total of four platforms. Direct access has also been established from the airport’s Terminal 3 and the Metro to the new platforms.
Klaus Jørgensen, project director at Sund & Bælt, said the upgrade was necessary due to rising passenger numbers and the future Fehmarn Belt fixed link. “Passenger figures are growing, and with the upcoming Fehmarn Belt connection, we need more trains running from the station,” he said.
Ture Ertmann, a commuter representative for the Øresund Bridge who travels daily between Malmö and Copenhagen, welcomed the changes. “This is great news—it removes a major bottleneck. Now, trains that don’t need to stop can simply pass through without waiting,” he said.
While the new platforms are uncovered, Ertmann noted that shelter from rain and snow would have been ideal. Sund & Bælt acknowledged the need but confirmed that funding for overhead protection was not available in this phase.
