Police warn drivers in Nordland as icy roads cause multiple accidents

Police in Nordland have urged drivers to avoid unnecessary travel after multiple vehicles skidded off icy roads early Saturday morning, Dagbladet reports.

“Please leave your car at home if you’re still on summer tires,” said Remi Johansen, operations manager for Nordland police district. “Even for short trips. We hope conditions improve later today.”

The warning follows a reported traffic accident on national road 80 near Tverlandet. Johansen noted that while some drivers have already contacted authorities after sliding into ditches, “there are likely more stranded vehicles than we know about.”

Statens vegvesen (Norwegian Public Roads Administration) has confirmed widespread icy conditions across the region.
