Dispute over pallet wall leads to dismissal but ends in cooperation
A conflict between two neighbouring businesses in Denmark escalated when a manager built a wall of pallets to block customers from a neighbouring event, resulting in his dismissal—but the incident has now led to a joint effort to improve relations, reports DR.
The dispute began during Easter when gaming retailer Geekd hosted a well-attended event with around 2,000 participants. Many attendees used the parking spaces of neighbouring garden centre chain Billigblomst, prompting the local Billigblomst manager to construct a roughly 400-pallet wall between the two businesses.
Billigblomst’s director, Peter Bomholt, condemned the move, stating that poor neighbourly relations were unacceptable. “What happened was not smart,” Bomholt said. “We cannot tolerate bad neighbourly relations in any way.” Though the pallets were placed on Billigblomst’s own property, Bomholt stressed the importance of maintaining open communication.
After discussions, the pallets were eventually removed, though they remained near Geekd’s entrance for some time. Ronnie Olesen, manager of Geekd, acknowledged that his company should have better coordinated with Billigblomst ahead of the event. Following a meeting with Billigblomst’s new manager, both sides agreed to collaborate in the future.
“When parents come to our events with their children, they can drop by Billigblomst while they wait,” Olesen suggested as one way to foster cooperation.
The dismissed Billigblomst manager declined to comment.
