Faroese parliament requests additional 2.5 million krona for lawmakers’ waiting allowances

The Faroese parliament’s leadership has requested an extra 2.5 million krona to cover waiting allowances for lawmakers this year, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Under the current budget, 700,000 krona had been allocated for the allowances. However, because parliamentary elections were held in March—rather than autumn—the full two-year payment period now falls within 2026, necessitating the additional funds, according to the leadership’s budget proposal.

Newly elected MPs Magni Højgaard (Union Party) and Bjørt Lind (Social Democratic Party) are among those receiving the allowances for the first time.
