A café in the Faroe Islands’ scenic Mikladalur valley will not reopen for the summer season, despite a record number of tourists visiting the archipelago, Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Visit Faroe Islands’ annual report shows tourism revenue continues to rise, but Café Edge in Kalsoy has decided to stay closed. The decision comes as politicians and tourism officials debate how to improve coordination in the sector.

Eirikur í Jákupsstovu and Árni Skaale, both members of the Faroese parliament, along with Guðrið Højgaard, director of Visit Faroe Islands, appeared on the radio programme Breddin on Friday. All three agreed that better collaboration and planning are needed in Faroese tourism.

The café’s closure contrasts with the island’s growing popularity. Kalsoy, known for its dramatic cliffs and hiking trails, attracts increasing numbers of visitors during the summer months.
