The Finnish Air Force will perform ceremonial flyovers with F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets in Mikkeli and Kilpisjärvi on Monday as part of national Veterans Day celebrations, public broadcaster Yle reports.

In Mikkeli, the flyover will take place at 9:00 local time during a flag-raising ceremony above the market square, approaching from the north at an altitude of approximately 300 metres. The city is hosting this year’s national Veterans Day main event, attended by President Alexander Stubb and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb.

At the Three-Country Cairn border marker between Finland, Sweden, and Norway in Kilpisjärvi, a flyover is scheduled for 12:00 local time, also coinciding with a flag-raising ceremony. The event is organised by the Pohjan Jaeger Guild and the Jaeger Brigade.

The Air Force notes that the flyovers are weather-dependent. Veterans Day honours Finnish war veterans and commemorates the end of the Lapland War 81 years ago, marking the beginning of peace in Finland.
