Finland’s largest welfare region website crashes amid investigation into cause
The website of Pirkanmaa welfare region—the largest in Finland—collapsed on Friday morning, leaving users with error messages, Yle reports. The issue was resolved by early afternoon, though the cause remains under investigation.
Elina Kinnunen, Pirkanmaa’s communications director, told Yle that technicians were working to identify the problem while the site was down. “We apologise to customers for the disruption,” she said, declining to speculate on whether the outage resulted from a cyberattack, such as a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.
Services resumed around 1 p.m. local time. During the downtime, essential contact details for Pirkanmaa welfare region (known as Pirha) remained accessible via the national Suomi.fi portal, and the region’s separate OmaPirha patient platform operated normally. Pirha also communicated updates through social media.
The welfare region has not disclosed further details about the incident. Authorities continue to examine the technical failure.
