Large wildfire breaks out on Vaasa-Korsholm border – emergency services request border guard assistance
A major wildfire has spread across the border between Vaasa and Korsholm (Mustasaari), with over ten fire units battling the blaze, Yle Pohjanmaa reports.
Emergency services received the first report of the fire at around 5:30 PM on Thursday. The fire is located along Alskatintie road, near the municipal boundary between Vaasa and Korsholm.
By 10:30 PM, the estimated burn area had reached 5–6 hectares. Firefighting efforts involve units from Vaasa, Korsholm, and Maalahti, with fire vehicles partially blocking traffic on Alskatintie.
The regional rescue service has requested official assistance from the Finnish Border Guard to help contain the fire. A decision on deploying border guard resources will be made at first light.
No injuries have been reported, and the fire is not currently threatening nearby structures. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
