A historic school building in Tórshavn, known as Skúlaheimið, is at risk of closure as students warn of worsening conditions and accuse authorities of neglect, Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Students say leaks, drafts, and structural deterioration have gone unaddressed for years, while the property manager, Glasi, has implemented cost-cutting measures instead of repairs. Since the start of the year, maintenance staff have been laid off, access to common areas restricted, and lease terms renegotiated—without resolving the building’s declining state.

With no commitment to renovations, students claim they will begin relocating, raising concerns the facility may shut down entirely. “If nothing is done now, people will start moving out,” one student told KVF.

On Thursday, Faroese education authorities announced an assessment of the building’s condition, though details on timing or scope remain unclear. Officials confirmed that rent increases are off the table for now, but stopped short of guaranteeing funding for repairs.

Skúlaheimið, a longstanding educational hub in the capital, has faced repeated calls for upgrades, with students documenting water damage, poor insulation, and unsafe conditions in recent months.
