Customs and police operation in Savonlinna concludes with arrests

A three-day joint operation by Finnish Customs and police in Savonlinna has concluded with arrests linked to a suspected customs offence, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

Investigation leader and senior customs inspector Marko Laitinen told public broadcaster Yle that the operation, carried out in the Kinttupolu area, was part of a preliminary investigation into a customs violation. He confirmed arrests had been made but declined to provide further details about the nature of the suspected offence.

Laitinen stated the operation likely concluded on Thursday evening. Earlier reports by tabloid Iltalehti indicated authorities had used protective gear at the site, though Laitinen emphasised the operation posed no risk to bystanders at any stage. Emergency services were present but not due to any immediate danger, he added.
