Four boats rescued in Faroe Islands in one week
Four boats required emergency assistance in the Faroe Islands this week, according to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC).
The first incident occurred late last week when a small boat experienced engine trouble about nine nautical miles north of Kalsoy. The rescue vessel Rescue Vón was dispatched and towed the boat to Eiði.
A second small boat ran aground east of Hvalnes on Sandoy, also late last week. A workboat from the company Briml towed it to shore.
On Tuesday, a fishing vessel suffered engine failure half a nautical mile north of Stakkur. Rescue Vón again responded, towing the boat to Eiði.
Early Monday, a boat began taking on water west of the islands. A nearby vessel was asked to stand by and assist if necessary, while Rescue Sverri arrived to tow the boat to Miðvágur.
The incidents follow a series of recent maritime emergencies in Faroese waters.
