A coastal slope near Vejle Fjord that was severely damaged last year has now been reconstructed, following a directive from the Danish Coastal Authority, DR reports.

The slope at Brejning was bulldozed in early 2025, with 7,600 cubic metres of earth displaced by heavy machinery. The owner was ordered by the Coastal Authority to restore the area, a task now confirmed as complete by agency head Steen Gerner Jensen.

“The latest update is that the slope has finally been restored sufficiently to meet our requirements,” Jensen said. He noted that full restoration was impossible due to safety risks for workers, but added: “As much as could reasonably be done has now been completed.”

While not identical to its original state, Jensen expressed satisfaction with the outcome. “We’re extremely pleased that the slope has been restored as close to its original form as possible,” he said, though he reiterated frustration that the damage had occurred in the first place.

The case was reported to police, resulting in a 100,000 kroner (approx. €13,400) fine paid by the company owning the land. Critics, including the Socialist People’s Party and the Danish Society for Nature Conservation, argued the penalty was too lenient. SF’s legal spokesperson, Karina Lorentzen, called it “pocket change” given the environmental harm, questioning its deterrent effect.

Attempts to obtain comment from the landowner were unsuccessful.
