The Faroese government will reduce the VAT on petrol and diesel for a limited period, making it approximately 100 krónur cheaper to fill a car’s fuel tank, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Finance Minister Aksel V. Johannesen announced the measure, stating it aims to ease pressure on drivers amid rising global oil prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East. The tax reduction will apply only to petrol and diesel—heating oil for households is unaffected—and will remain in effect until 31 July.

The temporary cut follows recent government proposals to lower fuel costs for consumers. No changes will apply to other oil-based products.
