A major commercial celebration planned for Norway’s Constitution Day at Oslo’s Frogner Stadium has been abruptly cancelled, organisers announced on Tuesday.

The event, marketed as the start of “a new May 17 tradition” in the capital, was set to feature DJs, pre-ordered drink packages, and seating for up to 4,200 attendees, with tickets priced between 499 and 599 kroner. Organisers The Nordic Tour confirmed the cancellation in a Facebook post, citing insufficient grounds to proceed.

“After a joint assessment, the event unfortunately did not have a sufficient basis to be carried out this year,” Chris Collings, chair of The Nordic Tour, told Dagbladet. He declined to elaborate on the reasons behind the decision but stressed that the cancellation would have no financial impact on the company or its suppliers.

All ticket holders will receive automatic refunds through Ticketmaster, according to the organisers. The ticketing platform has not yet responded to requests for comment.

The event had promised long communal tables, live music, flag decorations, and games, alongside food and drink service. VIP packages included premium seating near the stage. Organisers expressed gratitude for the public interest and asked for understanding.

Norway’s Constitution Day, celebrated annually on May 17, is traditionally marked by parades, public speeches, and family gatherings across the country.
