Man arrested after body found on balcony in suspected Turku homicide
A man reported missing in Turku in February has been found dead on a balcony in a suspected homicide, police announced on Monday. The sole occupant of the apartment, a 43-year-old man, was arrested in connection with the case.
According to a statement by the Southwest Finland Police Department, the victim was last seen on February 4 at a private residence in the Varissuo district of Turku. Authorities launched a search after a missing person report was filed in March.
Investigators conducted extensive interviews and searches but initially found no trace of the missing man. “Public tips largely turned out to be rumors sparked by his sudden disappearance,” said Detective Chief Inspector Tommi Kosunen in the release.
On Monday, police searched the Varissuo apartment linked to the disappearance and discovered the victim’s body on the balcony. The 43-year-old resident was detained on suspicion of homicide.
Kosunen confirmed that the suspect and victim knew each other. “The suspect has admitted during questioning to committing the act following a dispute,” he stated. The case will be forwarded to the Western Finland Prosecution District for charging consideration in early June.
