Man in his 50s found dead after skiing accident in Hemsedal
A 50-year-old man from Sandefjord was found dead in the Hemsedal alpine resort on Tuesday afternoon, Norwegian police report.
According to Dagbladet, the man was discovered unresponsive by passersby at 3:17 PM. Bystanders attempted life-saving first aid, but he could not be revived. Police stated the man appeared to have been skiing in the resort when the accident occurred.
“It appears he was skiing in an unprepared area between two slopes and fell. The injuries suggest he was hurt in the fall,” operations manager Espen Reite wrote in the police log. Witnesses observed parts of the incident, and authorities are conducting interviews to clarify the sequence of events and causes.
The man will undergo an autopsy, Reite confirmed, adding that his injuries were consistent with a fall. Jonatan Eklöf, destination manager for Skistar in Hemsedal, expressed condolences to staff and confirmed that the resort’s ski patrol participated in the rescue effort.
