Police in Finland’s Kanta-Häme region are examining allegations of drug-related crimes and theft at the Elämäntaipale care home in Riihimäki, following a report by the local wellbeing services authority, Yle reports.

The care home, established in 2004, has faced scrutiny after an internal audit last year revealed deficiencies in recording near-miss incidents, safety risks, and daily patient documentation. Authorities have since tightened oversight, particularly around the monitoring of liquid medications.

Oma Häme, the regional wellbeing services provider, confirmed on Monday that Elämäntaipale has been placed under closer supervision and assigned a new on-site manager. Despite the investigation, officials maintain that the facility remains safe for residents.

Police have not ruled out additional charges as the preliminary investigation progresses. Care home staff and residents’ families were notified of the situation on Monday.
