The Faroese education provider Glasir is seeking to transfer responsibility for Skúlaheimið, an afterschool centre in Tórshavn, according to a report by public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

Una Joensen, principal of Glasir, confirmed in an interview with the news programme Dagi og vika that the institution no longer wishes to manage the facility. Originally operated by self-governing bodies, Skúlaheimið had greater operational freedom than Glasir currently has, she explained.

Skúlaheimið is now part of Glasir’s operations, with a portion of the college’s funding allocated to running the centre. Joensen stated that discussions are underway with various parties, including the housing authority Bústaðir, to take over management.

The interview also included Bárður á Lakjuni, the newly appointed minister for education, who expressed hope that a solution would be found before the summer break.
