Faroese historical newspaper archive to shut down

The Faroese National Library has announced that the online archive tidarrit.fo, which provides free access to old Faroese newspapers and periodicals, will be taken offline at the end of this month, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The platform, which currently allows users to view and read historical Faroese publications from home, relies on technical infrastructure provided by the company Infomedia. Following a corporate restructuring, Infomedia has informed the National Library that it will no longer support the system after April.

Readers seeking access to archived newspapers will once again need to visit the National Library in Tórshavn to view microfilm copies of the materials. The library has explored alternative digital solutions but has not yet secured a replacement platform.

The archive includes historical issues of publications such as Dagin and Vikin.
