Major roadworks on E18 this weekend: drivers urged to avoid the area
Motorists travelling between Oslo and Drammen are advised to leave their cars at home this weekend as extensive construction work begins at Fornebukrysset along the E18 highway, Dagbladet reports.
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen) announced that work will start Friday at 8 PM and continue until Sunday morning, causing significant traffic disruptions. The project will reduce the highway to two lanes heading toward Oslo and just one lane in the Drammen direction, with several ramps and bus stops closed.
“This weekend, there will be major construction work in Fornebukrysset. The intersection is tight, with little space for such operations,” said project manager Kjetil Fløtre in a statement. “There will be lane closures on the E18 and blocked ramps to carry out the work.”
Drivers are warned to expect long delays, particularly when leaving Oslo, as only one lane will remain open toward Drammen. The administration recommends alternative travel methods and advises those who must drive to allow extra time.
Additionally, the Oslo city centre race on Saturday may further increase traffic congestion and disrupt public transport schedules.
