Police reveal new details on Jyväskylä school threat: suspect carried gas-powered pellet gun
Finnish police have released additional details about a threat incident at Jyväskylä’s Normaalikoulu school last Friday, confirming the adult suspect was in possession of a pistol-style gas-powered pellet gun, public broadcaster Yle reports.
The man, who is not currently in custody, was detained after moving around the school grounds while behaving in a threatening manner. Authorities have not yet determined a motive or whether the incident was premeditated, as interrogations remain ongoing.
Initial reports from the University of Jyväskylä—under which Normaalikoulu operates as a teacher-training school—indicated that a pellet gun had been fired at a window of the upper-secondary building. Police initially filed charges for causing danger and resisting law enforcement.
Updated charges now include illegal threats, property damage, and violent resistance against an official. Investigators note that further charges may emerge as the pre-trial probe continues.
The case remains under active investigation.
