New parish priest appointed for Tvøroyri
The Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports that Jákup Erlingsson Petersen has been appointed parish priest for the northern Suðuroy deanery, based in Tvøroyri, effective 1 August.
Petersen, currently serving as parish priest in the eastern Norðstreymoy deanery with residence in Hvalvík, will succeed the position after an installation service scheduled for mid-August, according to the Faroese National Church website.
Ordained in January 2018, Petersen initially worked as a temporary priest in the western Suðurstreymoy deanery before assuming his current role in Hvalvík in September 2019. The northern Suðuroy deanery covers four parishes—Tvøroyri, Hvalba, Fámjin, and Sandvík—with a prayer house in Øðravík. Petersen was the sole applicant for the position.
