Faroese wage negotiations to resume after election pause
Wage negotiations in the Faroe Islands will restart following approval from the new finance minister, Aksel V. Johannesen, state broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The talks, which were suspended when the general election was called, will resume after a few outstanding issues are addressed, according to Jan Sjóstein of the finance ministry’s wage division.
Twelve unions in the public sector have already submitted a joint demand, with an agreed 3.87 percent pay increase for the first year. A further adjustment will account for productivity changes and inflation when future raises are determined.
Sjóstein confirmed that negotiations with the unions will begin as soon as they return to the table, with agreements expected to be reached on the first day. He noted that preliminary discussions had already taken place with some of the 12 unions before the election was announced, and these groups will likely be prioritised when talks restart.
