Eleven people have applied to become the next director of Kvinnuhúsið, the Faroese women’s shelter, public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

The application period has closed, and the shelter’s board will now conduct interviews with individuals and groups. Kvinnuhúsið provides counselling and guidance to women and men, while its crisis centre offers temporary accommodation for women and children in need.

Eyðvør Tausen Olsen has led the organisation since September 2022, with Luciana Santos serving as acting director during her absence. The new director, working alongside the shelter’s board, will oversee operations and management. Interviews with candidates are set to begin next week, according to Edda Hjartvarsdóttir, chair of the Kvinnuhúsfelag association.

Kvinnuhúsið was established on 1 October 1990.
