Man dies in climbing accident in Kristiansand
Police have identified the man who died in a climbing accident in Kristiansand on Saturday as 57-year-old Jan Egil Mortensen, Dagbladet reports.
The victim’s name was released in consultation with his next of kin. Mortensen was found by hikers in the Kjærrane area on Saturday evening. Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and a doctor, responded to the scene, but he was declared dead at the location.
Investigation leader Rebecca Løhaugen Vikstøl stated in a press release that the cause of the accident remains unclear. “It is too early to say anything definitive about what happened and what caused the accident,” she said. “This is something the police will attempt to determine through further investigation.”
Vikstøl confirmed that the incident “still appears to be an accident related to climbing.” The case continues to be investigated as an accident.
The name release was first reported by local newspaper Fædrelandsvennen.
