Nursing home employee charged after nearly 800,000 kroner vanished from resident’s account

A trusted employee at a Danish nursing home has been charged with fraud after nearly 800,000 kroner (around €107,000) disappeared from an elderly resident’s bank account, reports DR.

The resident, identified only as Carina’s mother, moved into the facility with substantial savings. Over several years, the funds were systematically drained—used for luxury purchases, loan repayments, and MobilePay transfers totalling over 80,000 kroner, all without authorisation.

Suspicion quickly fell on a staff member, who resigned shortly after the fraud was uncovered. While formally charged, the employee denies wrongdoing. The case is part of DR’s investigative series Kriminelt.
