The Tórshavn Workers’ Association has established a sickness fund to ensure hourly-wage members receive full pay during medically certified sick leave, Faroese Broadcasting Corporation (KVF) reports.
The fund, approved at the union’s general meeting on Tuesday, will cover wage losses for hourly workers who fall ill or suffer health-related absences. Previously, only salaried employees in the association were entitled to sick pay.
Union representative Heri Reynheim confirmed the new scheme applies retroactively from 1 January this year. The fund aims to address disparities between hourly and salaried workers in cases of illness or health issues.
