Changes to Faroese electricity laws are not necessary for the planned Eysturlund wind farm to supply power to the Havsbrún fish processing plant, according to Haraldur Hammer, chairman of the Faroese energy company SEV.

The statement comes after Bárður á Steig Nielsen, leader of the Union Party, claimed in a radio interview that legal amendments would be required for the project to proceed. The wind farm, developed by Effo in Lambahaga, is intended to provide electricity to Havsbrún in Fuglafjørður.

Hammer, who also serves as a Union Party candidate for the upcoming parliamentary elections, told public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya that existing regulations already permit the power transfer.
