New information has been released about a fatal diving accident in Valkeakoski, Finland, after two divers were found unconscious in water barely reaching a rescuer’s waist, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports.
The incident occurred on 28 March in Mallasvesi, a lake near Valkeakoski. According to an accident report by the Pirkanmaa Rescue Department, emergency services received a call at 13:45 local time from bystanders who reported two divers floating near the shore, still wearing their equipment.
Rescuers arriving at the scene found the victims about five metres from the shore, near a boat slip. Both were unresponsive and were given immediate CPR at the site. They were later transported to hospital, where both were pronounced dead.
Police previously confirmed that the divers were from outside the local area and were born in the 1980s and 1990s. Authorities have stated they had dived in the area before.
The Central Finland Police are investigating the cause of death, though further details will not be disclosed, as the inquiry is legally confidential.
The accident took place at a popular training spot for local divers.
