Steffan Klein Poulsen has been formally elected as the new leader of the Faroese Centre Party (Miðflokkurin), the party announced on Monday, reports Kringvarp Føroya.

The leadership change follows the party’s rules, which require a new vote after each general election. Jenis av Rana, who had led the party since 1998, stepped down immediately after the recent parliamentary election, paving the way for Poulsen’s election.

Poulsen was chosen as the new leader in a vote held on Monday. The transition had been expected since Rana announced his resignation shortly after the election results, explicitly endorsing Poulsen as his successor.

The Centre Party confirmed the result in a brief statement, marking the end of Rana’s nearly three-decade tenure at the helm.
