Finland is experiencing warmer-than-average spring temperatures, with potential record highs expected this week, according to national broadcaster Yle’s meteorologist Elias Paakkanen.

Sunny and warm conditions will persist nationwide, with current forecasts suggesting Tuesday could break spring temperature records. The existing record of 16.3°C, set in Ylivieska on Sunday, may be surpassed, as the same location already reached 15.2°C on Monday.

“Temperatures are above normal across the country, and Lapland is seeing unusually warm conditions for this time of year,” Paakkanen said. Typically, such warmth—between 10°C and 15°C—does not arrive in Lapland until late May, roughly a month later than now.

A strong high-pressure system remains over Finland, though weak weather fronts will bring increased cloud cover to southern and central regions by the weekend. Cloudy areas may see temperatures drop to around 9°C, while sunny regions will stay between 14°C and 15°C.

Clear nights will remain cold, with frost possible even in southern and central Finland. Cloudier skies will raise overnight temperatures in these areas. Meanwhile, a ground fire warning remains in effect for southern and central regions due to dry conditions.
