A new sports academy in Suðuroy, designed by Faroese firm MAP Arkitektar, will be built in Løðhamri after the local Vágs municipality donated the land, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

The Faroese government’s 2026 budget allocates no direct funds for construction, but legal provisions allow state financial support if additional funding is secured. Earlier contributions include 1.45 million DKK from the Nordic Council’s Nordeagrunnurin fund in 2023 and 350,000 DKK earmarked in the 2025 budget.

MAP Arkitektar won the architectural competition, beating proposals from Henning Larsen, NA, and Brim Arkitektar. The academy, launched in 2016, aims to strengthen sports education in the southernmost Faroe Islands region.
