A Faroese radio host surprised listeners this week by declaring love for her partner in a live on-air chess-themed proposal, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
Armgarð Arge, a presenter on the national broadcaster’s morning show, ended the weekly chess segment with the Faroese phrase “Eg elski teg aftur um mánan”*—a playful twist on the traditional “I love you,” referencing the chess term en passant (“in passing”).
The unexpected declaration aired Saturday during the program’s regular chess feature, leaving co-host Ingi Rasmussen to react in the moment. A recording of the segment is available on KVF’s website.
*Translation: “I love you en passant” (using the chess move’s Faroese name, “aftur um mánan”).
