Norwegian Teenager Found Dead on Gran Canaria Holiday
A 15-year-old Norwegian girl, Rebekka Andrine Osbakk Pedersen, was found dead during a family holiday on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, local media Saltenposten reported Friday in coordination with her family.
Pedersen, from Sørfold in northern Norway, was discovered deceased in the Puerto Rico harbour area on March 28. Spanish police confirmed to TV 2 that there were no signs of violence or criminal activity, though the exact cause of death remains unknown. An investigation is ongoing.
Sørfold mayor Kolbjørn Mathisen described the loss as “a great tragedy for the entire local community,” calling Pedersen a “resourceful and warm” youth leader. She had served as head of the municipality’s youth council.
Pedersen had been reported missing by her family before her body was found. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding her death.
