Finnish government proposes green licence plates for taxis
The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications has proposed introducing green licence plates for taxis to improve enforcement, according to a report by national broadcaster Yle.
The plates would have a green background with black registration numbers, a colour scheme chosen to optimise automatic reading by police field monitoring equipment. The proposal is part of a broader taxi regulation reform currently under parliamentary review.
Public consultation on the draft regulation will remain open until late May. If approved, the coloured plates—alongside other measures such as mandatory taximeters and additional driver training—could take effect as early as next year, depending on legislative timelines.
The government submitted its taxi reform proposal in late February, aiming to strengthen oversight in the sector.
