Finland, weather, wildfire warning

Finland is set for a warm and sunny weekend, with temperatures climbing as high as 15°C in some areas by Sunday, according to Yle’s meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander.

The high-pressure system currently over Finland is expected to bring clear skies and rising temperatures throughout the weekend. While Thursday remains windy—making conditions feel chilly, especially in northern regions—Friday will see weakening winds and a gradual warm-up. Morning frost may linger, but daytime temperatures are forecast to reach nearly 10°C in many areas, with northern Finland seeing highs above 5°C.

Saturday will bring widespread temperatures exceeding 10°C, and Sunday could see highs of 15°C in places. Lohtander noted that the high-pressure system may persist well into next week, prolonging the sunny conditions. However, nighttime temperatures will still dip toward freezing across the country.

Wildfire warnings in effect Dry conditions and a lack of rain have prompted wildfire warnings starting Saturday. The alert will initially cover eastern Finland before expanding to much of the country by Sunday and Monday.
