Norway’s red-green coalition faces crisis talks after fuel tax dispute
The centre-left coalition in Norway is in turmoil after the Centre Party broke its budget agreement before Easter, forming a majority with right-wing parties to cut fuel taxes, Dagbladet reports. The parties will meet at 09:30 on Thursday at the Storting (Norwegian parliament) to discuss the way forward.
“This is a meeting we agreed to hold before Easter. This is not a situation we wanted,” said Tuva Moflag of the Labour Party (Ap) ahead of the crisis talks.
The coalition’s collaboration fractured when the Centre Party abandoned the budget deal to push through reductions in petrol and diesel taxes alongside conservative parties. The outcome of Thursday’s meeting remains uncertain.
Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
