Construction of a new TikTok data centre in Lahti, Finland, will create jobs for hundreds of workers, with recruitment already underway, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
The project, managed by construction firm SRV, will begin foundation work in late April or early May. The company has already redeployed some employees internally and is actively hiring for key roles, including personnel supervisors, site engineers, and project engineers.
Jarkko Salmenoja, SRV’s unit director, estimates that the number of white-collar staff will reach several dozen, while the total workforce—including construction workers and building services installers—will rise to several hundred.
The 10-hectare site, located in Lahti’s Kiveriö district along Ilmarisentie and Väinämöisentie, is set to be completed by the end of 2027. TikTok, which will operate as a tenant under Singapore-based data centre developer DayOne, expects the facility to directly employ around 100 people once operational.
Salmenoja described the project as technically demanding, with an unusually tight schedule. “For clients, it is extremely important that the project is completed efficiently, both in terms of quality and timing,” he said. “The strict deadline is an exceptional feature compared to other construction projects.”
Lahti’s mayor, Niko Kyynäräinen, commented on the broader impact of TikTok’s investment, highlighting its significance for local employment and economic vitality.
