Hollola vicar hospitalised after suffering medical emergency during Easter service

The vicar of Hollola in southern Finland suffered a medical emergency during an Easter service and was later hospitalised in intensive care, the local parish confirmed on Tuesday.

In a Facebook update, Hollola parish stated that the vicar had experienced a sudden health incident while leading the Easter Sunday service. The incident follows earlier reports that the parish was examining whether the vicar had been fit to conduct the service, after concerns were raised about their condition during the event.

According to the parish’s statement, the vicar was taken to hospital and placed in intensive care. They were discharged from the intensive care unit on Tuesday.

In the same update, the vicar apologised for continuing the service despite being unwell, writing: “I was not fit for duty, but I tried to conduct the mass without success. That was a mistake. I thank my colleagues who helped me get assistance after the service. I apologise for what happened.”

Finnish public broadcaster Yle reported that it had been unable to reach the vicar or their deputy for further comment.
