Finland’s Security Intelligence Service (Supo) and the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency’s Cyber Security Centre have issued a warning about Russia’s use of poorly secured home routers for cyber espionage, state news agency STT reports.

The agencies participated in an FBI-led operation that disrupted cyber espionage activities by Russia’s military intelligence service, the GRU. The operation targeted a global network of compromised devices used by the GRU for surveillance.

Supo’s statement highlights the ongoing risk posed by unsecured internet-connected devices, which can be exploited for large-scale intelligence gathering.
