Hollola parish investigates vicar’s fitness to lead Easter service
The Hollola parish in southern Finland is examining whether its vicar was fit to conduct the Easter Sunday service after concerns were raised about their performance, Yle reports. The parish has removed the online recording of the service while the matter is under review.
The vicar has been placed on temporary leave following the incident. Satu Alander, acting in the vicar’s role, confirmed that both congregation members and parish trustees had expressed concerns about the vicar’s “labored” conduct during the service, which was held at Sovituksen Church and streamed live on YouTube.
Alander clarified that the concerns did not involve inappropriate behavior but rather the vicar’s visibly difficult presence. “This is solely about their manner and appearance being very strained,” she said. She declined to speculate on possible reasons for the vicar’s condition, stating that the investigation was not her responsibility.
The parish has not disclosed who is leading the inquiry or how extensive it will be. Alander noted that the public nature of the incident warranted a thorough review before any conclusions are drawn. The recording of the service has since been made private on YouTube, and the vicar remains on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
