Finnish prime minister’s mother dies at 88

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s mother, Maija Orpo, has died at the age of 88, the prime minister announced in an Instagram post on Tuesday morning.

Orpo shared a photo of himself holding his mother’s hand, writing: “My mother passed away peacefully this morning. I was able to be by her side and hold her hand as she left for heaven. Thank you for everything, dear mother.”

Maija Orpo was a teacher by profession.
