The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued a warning for storm-force winds with hurricane-strength gusts in northwest Jylland, with strong gusts expected across much of the country this Easter Sunday, DR reports.

The warning, upgraded from yesterday’s forecast, covers Thisted, Jammerbugt, Hjørring, Frederikshavn, and Læsø municipalities from 11:00 local time, though DMI meteorologist Jesper Eriksen noted that neighbouring areas south of Limfjorden may also be affected. Winds are expected to shift from a southerly to a westerly and southwesterly direction, intensifying throughout the day.

“All Danes will experience the wind picking up and becoming gustier,” Eriksen said. “There will be strong gusts nationwide, but only in the far northwest will they reach our warning threshold.”

The storm, named Dave, is moving from the British Isles toward southern Norway, bringing risks of uprooted trees, airborne branches, and dislodged roof tiles. DMI advises securing outdoor furniture and lightweight items.

Traffic and transport disruptions
The Road Directorate has already restricted wind-sensitive vehicles from crossing Sallingsund Bridge, which connects Mors and Salling, due to high winds. Conditions are expected to ease by Sunday evening. Most ferry services between Hirtshals and Norway have also been cancelled for the day.

The Danish Council for Safe Traffic urged caution, with director Jakob Bøving Arendt advising motorists to “take precautions if travelling in this weather and follow official recommendations.”

Camping sites prepare
At Svinkløv Camping near Fjerritslev, site manager Martin Andersen said staff were monitoring exposed areas, particularly for guests in tents or awnings. “We’re offering indoor shelter to those who want it,” he said, adding that unoccupied caravans with awnings would receive extra attention.

DMI also warned of storm-force winds in the Skagerrak and Fisker waters, with waves potentially exceeding 10 metres in places.
