Faroese coalition talks near agreement on government platform
Coalition negotiations between the Faroese People’s Party, Union Party, and Social Democratic Party are expected to conclude Saturday evening with a final agreement on a joint government platform, according to Beinir Johannesen, lead negotiator for the People’s Party.
Speaking to public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya, Johannesen confirmed that talks had progressed well throughout the day, with only a few remaining issues to resolve. “We are very close, and there isn’t much left before we can finalise the coalition agreement,” he said, declining to specify the outstanding points of disagreement.
The three parties have been in negotiations all day at the Løgting, the Faroese parliament building. Johannesen indicated that an agreement could be reached by late evening, though he did not provide further details on the content of the discussions.
A live radio update on the negotiations is expected later Saturday.
