Norwegian supermarket offers zebra meat and luxury goods for Easter

A Kiwi supermarket in the mountain resort of Hemsedal is drawing attention for its unusual Easter selection, including zebra meat, king crab, and premium wagyu beef, *Dagbladet* reports.

Instead of traditional Norwegian Easter staples like chocolate and crime novels, the store stocks exotic and high-end products more commonly found in upscale chains. “We’re probably a *Meny* disguised as a *Kiwi*,” admitted store manager Dani Møllerplass, referring to Norway’s more premium grocery brand.

The zebra meat, imported from South Africa, has become a talking point since its introduction after Christmas. Priced at around 600 kroner (€50) per kilogram, Møllerplass confirmed it has sold, though no customers were seen purchasing it during *Dagbladet*’s visit. One customer described the taste as “tender but mild.”

The store, which employs nearly 50 staff during the Easter rush, also offers Norway’s largest in-supermarket selection of Eastern European products alongside local specialties. Over the holiday week, sales match two normal months combined.

Other luxury items include wagyu beef at 3,500 kroner (€300) per kilogram and king crab. The store’s Easter turnover is boosted by Hemsedal’s status as a tourist destination, allowing extended opening hours.
