Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson confronts burglar at his home

A burglary at the home of Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson in Sölvesborg has prompted a police investigation, with the politician reportedly confronting the intruder himself, according to Swedish public broadcaster SVT Nyheter.

The Swedish Security Service (Säpo) confirmed to newspaper Aftonbladet that a preliminary investigation is underway, linking the incident to one of their protected individuals. Säpo spokesperson Gabriel Wernstedt declined to provide further details, stating only that the suspected crime involved “one of our protected persons.”

The break-in occurred overnight into Tuesday, when an unidentified individual entered Åkesson’s garage. The party leader is said to have personally confronted the suspect during the incident.

Åkesson has declined to comment on the matter when contacted by SVT.
