Finnish Defence Forces hold day of mourning for conscript killed in training accident
The Finnish Defence Forces will fly flags at half-mast on Wednesday in memory of a conscript who died in a military training accident in eastern Finland, public broadcaster Yle reports.
A 19-year-old conscript serving with the Karelia Brigade died on Tuesday during a routine exercise at the Vekaranjärvi garrison’s training area. The accident involved an all-terrain vehicle from an artillery regiment.
Crisis support services have been made available to fellow conscripts and personnel at the brigade following the incident.
Finnish military installations nationwide will observe the day of mourning with flags lowered to half-mast.
